The Chief executive officer of Algeria’s National Comp any of Industrial Vehicles, Mokhtar Chahboub, has said the country can produce i t s own cars in five years.
Chahboub said during at a meeting with local contractors that some conditions sh ould be fulfilled before reaching the objective – producing cars locally.
He said Algerian Small and Medium Bisinesses (SMBs) should first provide 15 per cent of the components of these vehicles, the batteries, windscreens and pneumat i cs, which are products that could be provided locally with other components like
the seats.
Chahboub said the local subcontractors should benefit from facilities to acquire plots of land and bank loans to develop their activities.
