Algeria said Wednesday it was in talks with Zimbabwe t o supply oil and gas to the southern African country.
Zimbabwe was a major importer of oil and gas from Algeria, but discontinued the imports in the 1990s for unspecified reasons.
Algerian Aambassador to Zimbabwe Ali Mokrani said the two countries were in nego tiations to resume the oil and gas trade.
“The arrangement has been there in the 90’s and we are reviving it,” he said, ad ding that “Algeria has abundant oil and gas resources and its national oil compa n y, Sonatrach is the first in Africa and the 10th in the world.”
Mokrani said the Algerian energy company, which produces 1.5 million barrels of oil a day, was also eyeing investment opportunities in Zimbabwe.
