Angola’s inflation rate may reach 17% – Economist

Angolan economist Alves Rocha, has said the country’s inflation rate may surpass the 17 per cent figure at the end of this year, taking into account the inflation recorded in October 2009 and in the same period of 2010, where the consumer price rate was about 16 per cent.

Noting that November and December were the most expensive months, Rocha said it was possible that inflation rate would surpass 17 per cent at the end of 2010, which means an increase of 3 per cent with regard to the 2009 inflation rate.

“The country’s monetary policy has been well defined but I think that currently the inflation has other reasons that are not only related to the inflation rate and the monetary policy,” said the economist.

He also explained that Angola was facing some problems of growth, recording an economic growth that causes the prices to rise in a less normal way than what is hoped and desired
