Bahraini Premier calls on ministers to speed up projects

Bahrain’s ministers were called to speed up programmes for key development projects as specified in a national blueprint by HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa. He stressed the importance of construction and development projects in support of government policies in housing, education, health and service sectors.

Chairing the Cabinet session at Gudaibiya Palace, HRH the Premier also underlined the importance of co-ordination between ministries and government bodies to complete such programmes with utmost transparency and competence, away from red tape and delays.

He instructed the Energy Ministry and the Electricity and Water Authority to take steps to meet increasing demand for electricity and water during summer and Ramadan. In another development, the Cabinet decided to cap annual bonuses to BD8,000 ($21,220) for heads and members of government committees who have to serve a maximum of two councils or committees.

The Civil Service Bureau will determine criteria according to which the bonuses will be paid.

The Cabinet will then decide on recommended amounts. Heads and members of councils and committees are not to be paid for attending their meetings. The bonuses also exclude committees which have been created by a ministerial decision but have not been approved by the Cabinet.
