Bobo-Dioulasso traders ask for quick compensation in Burkina Faso

Traders’ union in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso’s second biggest city where a military mutiny was crushed by government forces recently, on Tuesday asked the government to speed up compensation for their members whose wares were looted during the mutiny on 31 May.

Addressing a press conference, the chairman of the association, Dramane Sanou, said “if the compensations promised by the government are not given as soon as possible, there will be a slowdown in the economic activity in Bobo-Dioulasso.”

Reports say that seven people were killed and 33 injured when government troops crushed the mutiny in a military camp in Bobo Dioulasso, 350 km from the Burkinabe capital, Ouagadougou.

Jerome Bougouma, the country’s minister of territorial administration and security, said six mutinous soldiers were killed inside the camp during the fighting and a young girl, whose name and age were not given, died when she was hit by a stray bullet near the barracks, according to the report
