Botswana’s inflation stable

Botswana’s October year-on-year inflation remained stable at 7.1%, Statistics Botswana (SB), the country’s data agency, said here Thursday.

In September, Botswana’s inflation recorded an increase by 0.5 of a percentage point from 6.6% recorded in August 2012, moving away from the central bank’ target of 3-6 in the medium term.

SB said the group indices were stable between September and October, recording movements of less than 1.0% except for the alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics group index which recorded an increase of 1.8%.

SB further says the all-tradable inflation rate for October stood at 8.2% , up by 0.1 of a percentage point on the September rate of 8.1%.

Motswedi Securities, a stock broking firm, reckons that inflation will only reach the Bank of Botswana medium term objective of 3-6 in 2013.
