Botswana: Toyota is favourite automobile in Botswana

Toyota vehicles have remained the most preferred vehicle brand in Botswana, the diamond-rich southern Africa nation, according to statistics released by the country’s data authority, Statistics Botswana (SB), Tuesday on transport  and infrastructure.

SB data show that the Toyota brand registered 4,355 cars, 541 vans, 251 trucks, 175 mini-buses and 3 buses during the last quarter of 2013

“Toyota constituted 47.7 percent of all the new registrations in Q4 2013, followed by Mazda and Nissan with 7.9 and 6.7 percent respectively,” said Anna Majelantle, statistician general at SB.

“Vehicle makes that fall under the category ‘Other’ include Daihatsu, Astra, Jaguar, Lexus, Mini Cooper, Porsche and Tata,” she said.

Botswana recorded an increase of 7.3 % in the number of vehicles that were registered for the first time in the last quarter of 2013, when compared to third quarter of the same year.

Also, the number of passenger cars at the end of the last quarter of 2013 shows an increase of 4.2 percent from the previous quarter and a decrease of 8.7 percent when compared to the same quarter in 2012.
