Côte d’Ivoire, China Eximbank sign FCFA 331b loan pact for power

The Ivorian government on Wednesday signed a FCFA 331 billion loan agreement with Eximbank of China for the construction of a hydroelectric dam in Soubré in the country’s southwest.

The loan agreement was signed by Ivorian Prime Minister Daniel Kablan Duncan and the Ambassador of China in Côte d’Ivoire Zhang Guoqing.

The project, which will last 56 months, will include the construction of the dam, the transmission network and the commissioning of the dam.

The project is expected to create 5,000 jobs, in addition to the construction of infrastructure for the local community.

When completed, the hydroelectric dam will have the capacity to generate 275 MW.
