Domestic airlines to raise fares by 20% in Nigeria

Domestic airlines operating in Nigeria, under the aegis of Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), are to increase fares on most routes by 20 per cent, the local media reported Tuesday, quoting AON’s Chairman Steve Mahonwu,

With the planned price hike, the fare for economy class ticket between the commercial city of Lagos and the capital city of Abuja
will go up from 18,000 naira (US$120) to 22,000 naira (US$147), on the average.

The planned increase follows the decision by oil marketers to jack up the price of aviation fuel by 10 per cent, with effect from 10
Jan., raising fuel price from 115 naira (76 cents) to 125 naira (83 cents) per litre.

“We have met today (Monday); we will be reviewing our tariff by 20 per cent across the cabin,” Mahonwu said
