The New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), in partnership with the Technical Centre for Agriculture and Rural Cooperation (CTA), has invited entries for its photo and essay competition, according to a statement from the organization, received by PANA here Thursday.

It said that the competition was put together to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the defunct Organization of African Unity (OAU), set up in 1963 and transformed into the African Union (AU) in 2002.

The Photo and Essay contest is open to persons aged 13 to 35 years who are citizens of AU member states. It will focus on Youth, Women and Rural Agricultural Development and will run from 27 March to 6 May, 2013.

“The essence of the Contest is tied to this year’s AU theme – Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance. It is aimed at drawing public attention to the efforts that NEPAD and its partners are making towards agricultural and rural development, as well as the empowerment of women and youth”, the statement explained.

Entries are expected to make reference to NEPAD Programmes and Projects where youth and women’s development is directly and indirectly involved such as Gender, Food and Nutrition Security, the School Feeding scheme CAADP and Climate Change.

Winners of the competition will receive prizes, including cameras and cash. NEPAD will announce the winners at the end of May.

The winning photos and essays will be printed out and framed, captioned and exhibited at a Museum in Johannesburg, South Africa, for a month.
