A delegation of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), on Wednesday, visited a renewable energy pilot project in the locality of Neffatia, delegation of Chorbane, Mahdia Governorate.
The aforementioned project, whose cost reached 500,000 dinars, is part of the «Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in rural areas of the Arab Region (REGEND)» implemented by ESCWA, said official at the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME) Nafaa Bakkari.
Young farmers have been the main beneficiaries of this project, resorting to the use of solar-powered engines when extracting water, the same source added, saying this programme has also targeted women farmers in the region through several training sessions specific to their activities.
