Togo: WADB gives Senegal 4.56b CFAF to improve quality of water

The West African Development Bank (WADB) has given Senegal’s national water company, SONES, a loan of 4.56 billion CFAF (about US$9.3 million) to improve water production, the bank said in a statement issued Wednesday at its headquarters in Lomé, Togo.

The loan agreement was signed in Dakar, Senegal’s capital, by WADB Governor Christian Adovelande and the Managing Director of SONES Anta Seck.

The loan will make it possible for SONES to improve the quality of the water distributed in the suburb of Dakar through the building of a water-treatment plant

In addition to improving the quality of water, the loan will also enable SONES to increase by 18,960 cubic metres per day the country’s water production.

In a related development, WADB has also given Senegal 10 billion CFAF (US$20.8 million) to partially finance the renovation of the road Dialokoto-Mako in the eastern part of the country.

The bank said the renovation of that road will facilitate the economic and social exchanges at the national and sub-regional levels.
