The European Union commissioner for humanitarian aid, Mrs Georgieva, on a visit to Niger and Chad, has announced the release of 95 million euro to help countries face the food crisis that has hit the Sahel.
A statement issued on Thursday in Brussels said the funds were in addition to 10 million euros emergency aid released in November for populations’ victims of famine in Sahel.
EU estimates that two millions citizens would benefit from the aid, including 300,000 under-two children, as well as pregnant breast-feeding women.
The funds released by EU will be managed by humanitarian NGOs operating in Sahel, as well as the UN specialized agencies
