EU grants Togo FCFA 14.7b to implement ”SCAPE” programme

The European Union (EU) has granted Togo 22.5 million Euros (about 14.7 billion CFA francs) to help the West African nation implement its Accelerated Growth and Promotion of Employment Strategy (SCAPE), the EU said in a statement, made available to PANA here Monday.

Th grant, which is part of the budgetary support programme for public policy (ABPP), will be implemented over a three-year period (2012-2014).

It is geared “to support the reform of public finance management, growth and poverty reduction to help Togo achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) regarding sustainable macro-economic development and democratic consolidation.

Approved last September by those in charge of policy development in Togo, SCAPE is considered by the Togolese authorities as “the framework to be used by the government to implement its policy over the 2013-2017 period”.

It aims to “increase the annual average income of Togolese people over the next five years, help them fight poverty as well as generate many jobs for young people. “
