EU releases 46m euros for Mauritania to fight poverty

The European Union Commission has granted Mauritania a 46 million euro assistance, including a budget support of 40 million euros over two years and an institutional support of 6 million euros over three years, a statement made available to PANA here said Saturday.

The statement said the financial support was granted within the framework of an efficient strategy for poverty.

”It is particularly about a special opportunity that should enable Mauritania to implement actions that will benefit populations in the areas of social services, particularly the access to health and education, maintenance of interior security and the management of public funds,” head of EU delegation in Nouakchott Hans Georg-Gerstenlauer said.

The European Union is Mauritania’s top economic partner, giving the African nation a total aid package of 80 million euros last year.
