EU supports Tanzania’s small sugarcane growers

The European Union (EU) will provide euros 9.5 million to support growers in Tanzania Mainland’s sugar industry as well as civil society organisations in the offshore Zanzibar Island, it was officially announced here Thursday.

According to a statement from the EU Mission in Dar es Salaam, the credit was being extended under a financing agreement for the two new European Development Fund programmes after consultations on future bilateral cooperation.

EU’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Filiberto Ceriani Sebregondi, and Tanzania’s Finance and Economic Affairs Minister, William Mgimwa, signed the financing agreement Thursday.
