France grants Mali 25b CFAF for water project

France has announced a grant of 25 billion CFA (US$50 million) for a potable water project in the capital, Bamako, official sources told PANA here Wednesday.

The French Ambassador in Mali, Gilles Huberson, has already handed the Malian Energy and Water Minister, Makan Tounkara, a letter confirming the grant from the French development agency, AFD, for the project that will be set up in Kabala, South-west Bamako.

The delay in the release of the grant is due to the 22 March 2013 military coup in the African country.

The project will supply potable water to the districts near the capital.
