Gambia annouces 25-percent tariff increase for ferry services

The Gambia has announced a 25-percent tariff increase for the West African country’s ferry services which will take affect from 1 May, PANA reported Monday.

Gambia Ferry Services Management Company Ltd., in a statement, disclosed that the rise in ferry tariffs was prompted by “high costs of inputs – fuel, spare parts and lubricants”.

“This modest increase is in cognizance of our corporate social responsibility, and to provide safe, reliable and efficient ferry services throughout the country and at all times,” the statement added.

The company’s management and board also said they count on the continued support and cooperation of their customers in their strive ”to facilitate and enhance the free movement of goods and services in the country and the sub-region.”

Gambian ferries are very crucial in linking not only the north and southern banks of River Gambia but also the northern part of Senegal and its south province of Cassamance.
