Guinea increases pump price of petrol, diesel

The pump price of the litre of petrol, diesel and other petroleum products went up on Monday in Guinea, climbing from 6,500 GF (about 580 CFAF) to 7,500 Guinean francs, according to a communiqué published by the government.

The communiqué did not state the reasons for the increases but observers say fares of public transportation have not changed.

According to a source close to the ministry of Commerce, government subsidy on petroleum products for the year 2010 amounted to 700 billion GF (about 7 billion CFA francs) and to nearly 80 billion GF (800 million CFAF) for month of December alone
