US company wins State Department award for Ghana’s cocoa business

America’s “Award for Corporate Excellence (ACE)”, given out by the US State Department, has been won by the Mars Incorporation company, for its sustainable cocoa business in Ghana, according to a statement received here by PANA Wednesday.

Mars, an American company, was also rewarded for its efforts to improve the economic development of the cocoa region of Ghana, the world’s second largest cocoa producer after Cote d’Ivoire.

Created in 1999, the ACE Prize is given out to US companies that help in enhancing relations between the US and their partners.

Ghana plans to take its annual production of cocoa from the current 700,000 tonnes to more than one million in 2012
