International Monetary Fund (IMF) Deputy Managing Director Min Zhu will on 5 November lead an IMF delegation to Senegal to attend a symposium on monetary integration and changes in the international financial system.
The delegation will also hold meetings with Senegalese authorities, a statement said on Friday.
PANA reports that the symposium is being held to mark the 50th anniversary of the Banque Centrale des États de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (BCEAO)
BCEAO is the French acronym for the Central Bank of West African States, which serves the eight French-speaking West African countries.
The statement, made available to PANA in New York, said Mr. Min will also hold discussions with the Senegalese authorities on 6 November, focusing on the medium-term economic outlook for the country and the challenges ahead.
”I am very much looking forward to my first visit to Senegal as Deputy Managing Director of the IMF. Senegal has made significant progress over the last few years,” the IMF deputy chief was quoted as saying.
”Looking at the medium term, the challenge will be the pursuit of policies to achieve strong, sustainable, and inclusive growth, and to reduce poverty in an uncertain global
economic environment,’’ he said.
The statement also disclosed that Min will meet President Sall, Prime Minister Mbaye, and several other Senegalese officials.
