Industrial producer prices down in Senegal

Prices of industrial products went down 0.6 percent in October compared to the prevailing prices in September, Senegal’s National Agency of Statistics and Demography (ANSD) said in its industrial producer price index (IPPI), obtained here Saturday by PANA.

The report said, “after an increase recorded in June 2011, the industrial producer prices in October experienced a decline of 0.6 percent month-on-month with an index standing at 118.1 against the figure of 118.8 the previous month.”

The ANSD attributed the decline to lower industrial producer prices of building materials, energy, mechanicals, food, paper and cardboard, noting, however, that prices of chemicals rose during the period.

At the same time, the producer prices of wood, textiles and leather, mining and other manufacturing industries remained stable.

On a year-to-year basis, industrial producer prices rose by 7.6 percent compared to the figure for October 2010, the statement said, adding that the average prices of the first 10 months of 2011 rose by 7.2 percent compared to those of the corresponding period in 2010
