Inflation falls in Zimbabwe

Monthly inflation in Zimbabwe decreased 0.1 percentage points in March to -3.0 percent, the second consecutive month this has fallen, a government statistics agency sai d Thursday.

But the Central Statistical Office (CSO) did not give annual inflation figures, last published in June last year when it stood at 231 million percent.

Later in the year, Zimbabwe descended into hyperinflation, with economists estim ating annual inflation running into a trillion percent.

The statistical agency then stopped issuing inflation data.

The CSO said food inflation in March stood at -5.63 percent, while non food infl ation had shed 0.99 percentage points to -1.81 percent.
