Investors stake 11.4 billion naira on equities at Nigerian bourse

Investors staked a total of 11.4 billion naira on 696.7 million shares in 21,016 deals at the close of trading on the floor of Nigerian S tock Exchange (NSE) Wednesday.

The Investors Tuesday placed 8.63 billion naira on 550.1 million shares traded i n 18,046 deals.

Market capitalisation closed at 12.112 trillion naira while the All-Share Index recorded 62,502.97 points in contrast to Tuesday when market capitalisation was 1 2.119 trillion naira with the All-Share Index closing at 62,463.66.

The banking subsector led on the activity chart measured in turnover volume with 324.01 million shares valued at 8.272 billion naira in 9,108 deals.

Firstinland bank Plc, Access bank Plc and Intercontinental bank Plc shares boost ed the activity in the subsector.

Insurance subsector followed on the activity chart with a turnover of 236 millio n shares worth 936.2 million naira recorded in 4,361 deals. It led the activity c hart Tuesday.

The shares of N.E.M. Insurance Co. of Nigeria Plc, Universal Insurance Co. Plc a nd Goldlink Insurance Plc boosted the activity in the subsector.

Conglomerates subsector came a distance third on the activity chart with 14.8 mi llion shares valued at 178.54 million naira in 714 deals.

Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp) maintained its lead as the most traded shares, UNILEVER Nig Plc followed and A.G. Leventis Nigeria Plc.

Oando Plc led the gainers’ table with a gain of N7.99 to close at N223.00, Juliu s Berger Plc followed with N4.95 and 7UP Nigeria Plc N2.50 to close at N52.50.

Two oil stocks led the losers’ table. Total oil Nigeria Plc led with a lose of N 11.99 to close at N227.96, Mobil Nig Plc followed with N7.01 to close at N221.00

and Ecobank Transnational Incorporated closed at N240.00, losing N6.78 in the pr o cess.
