The oil field of al-Charara, in southern Libya, with a production capacity of 340,000 barrels/day, has resumed production after several months break, an official at the Libyan National Oil Company (NOC) said on Tuesday.
“Production has resumed at the oil port of al-Charara and will increase progressively little by little,” said the NOC spokesperson, Mohamed al-Harairi, who gave neither statistics about the present level of production, nor the circumstances under which production resumed.
The oil field of al-Charara was closed by demonstrators who were demanding jobs and better sharing of oil revenues. Arrangements had been concluded with the government in the past to resolve the issues but were not honored.
The NOC spokesperson said that national crude oil production had risen to 326,000 barrels/day.
About the resumption of exports from the ports of Ras Lanouf and al-Sedra in the east, whose control was recently returned to the government by armed groups after more than ten months, Mr al-Harairi said that it was too early to give a date for the arrival of an oil tanker to load crude oil.
