Libyan airline to launch flights to Niger in April

Libyan carrier, Afriqiyah Airways, plans to extend its services to Niamey, the Nigerien capital, later this month, according to the Libyan Minister of Transport, Abdel Kader Mohamed.

At an audience with the Ambassador of Niger in Tripoli, Hassan Maloune, on Sunday, Mr. Mohamed said the flight to Niamey would be twice a week.

He said the opening of a direct flight between Tripoli and Niamey was in respond to a request made by the Nigerien government whose citizens have expressed the need to fly into Europe and the Gulf countries via Libya.

The Nigerien diplomat, Maloune, stressed the commitment of his country to strengthen cooperation with Libya in various fields, including air transportation.

Afriqiyah Airways operates scheduled flights to 17 capitals in West and East Africa but these were suspended following the popular uprising that toppled the Mouammar Kadhafi regime in 2011.
