Mauritius launches economic data collection programme

Mauritius Wednesday launched, with the support of the World Bank, a data collection programme on non-tariff measures in order to i mprove business activities and competitiveness, the Trade Ministry told PANA her e .

Mauritius is one of six countries of Eastern and Southern Africa, including Bots wana, Namibia, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda, chosen to carry out this programme, a i med, among others, at renewing the database of the analysis and information syst e m on trade.

“The creation of this database on non-tariff measures will facilitate local expo rts by providing more information on such measures,” said an official of the Mau r itian Trade Ministry.

The head of the World Bank delegation, Olivier Cadot, said non-tariff measures s uch as standards that apply to products or labeling requirements could become ob s tacles for some companies if they are poorly designed.
