Mauritius: Trade deficit to reach US$2.8b in 2014

Statistics Mauritius said Thursday that based on past trends and indicative information from various sources, total exports for Mauritius in 2014 are expected to reach US$3.03 billion compared to imports valued at US$5.83 billion.

In its latest bulletin regarding trade figures for the first quarter of 2014, the Office said total exports amounted to US$730 million, showing an increase of 5 per cent compared to the first quarter of 2013.

Meanwhile, total imports dropped by 5.6 per cent to reach US$1.19 billion, from US $1.26 billion in the corresponding quarter of 2013.

Statistics Mauritius said the island’s main buyers were: United States (+21.6%), France (+19.1%) and Madagascar (+15.1%) while its main suppliers were: India (-13.6 %), South Africa (-6.8 %) and France (-3 %).
