Morocco: Parliament ratifies fisheries pact with EU

The Moroccan parliament has ratified the fisheries agreement signed between the country and the EU last July, paving the way for 126 European vessels to return to the Moroccan Atlantic coast.

Parliament Tuesday ratified the four-year fisheries pact, which allows 126 fishing vessels from 11 EU countries to fish in Moroccan waters in return for an annual EU payment of about 40 million Euros, including 14 million Euros earmarked to support the development of the Moroccan fisheries sector.

Some 30 million Euros of the total sum will be provided through the EU, while 10 million Euros will be paid to Morocco by concerned ship owners.
