Most of the dates imported by Indonesia come from Tunisia

Indonesia has imported its 2024 date stocks mainly from Tunisia and not from Israel, the Indonesian Statistics Agency (BPS) said in Jakarta last Friday.

“There are no imports of dates from Israel. According to our data, Indonesian dates are mainly imported from Tunisia, Egypt, Iran and Saudi Arabia,” the acting director of BPS said.

Based on data for the period January-February 2024, she revealed that dates imported from Tunisia accounted for 29.66% of Indonesia’s date stocks, followed by 28.35% from Egypt, 9.3% from Iran, 8.61% from Saudi Arabia and 24.07% from other countries.

It noted that Indonesia had increased the value and volume of its date imports in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan, which began in March.

The total value of Indonesian date imports in February was $17.81 million, an increase of 25.77% from the previous month’s value of $13.66 million.

The official went on to give details of the volume of imports, indicating that Indonesia imported 11.24 thousand tons of dates in February, up 51.28% compared to the 7.43 thousand tons of dates imported in January.
