Nigeria: ECOWAS to churn out new set of young entrepreneurs

Another batch of young people from ECOWAS Member States will receive their certificates on 16 December, 2014, after the successful completion of their one-month intensive training at the Songhaï Centre, Porto-Novo, Benin Republic, according to an ECOWAS Commission press statement, received here by PANA.

The 41 male and 23 female youths from Benin, Burkina Faso, the Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo are beneficiaries of the 2014 Edition of the capacity building and skills acquisition programme by the ECOWAS Youth and Sports Development Centre (EYSDC), based in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The current training, which started on 17 November, covered areas such as animal husbandry, food production and cottage industry.

The graduation ceremony will be co-chaired by the Benin Youth, Sports and Games Minister, Safiou Idrissou Affo, and the ECOWAS Commissioner for Social Affairs and Gender, Dr. Fatimata Dia Sow.

It will be preceded by the presentation of business plans by the trainees before a panel.

More than 505 West African agricultural entrepreneurs have been trained under the EYSDC annual capacity building programme at the Centre since 2007.

The programme supports youth empowerment and employment in the region, building the capacities of young entrepreneurs and contributing to their career development as well as creating business partnerships among them.
