Nigeria licences 7 firms to mine gold

Nigeria’s federal government has issued licences to seven firms to begin gold mining in the country soon, the private Punch newspaper reported Wednesday.

The companies are Retel, Savannah Gold, CGC Nigeria Limited, Erin Mineral Resources, Karing Five Limited, Mines Geotechniques and Northern Numero Resources Limited.

The paper quoted the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mr. Musa Sada, as saying at a ministerial platform in the capital city of Abuja Tuesday that other minerals were now being mined as a result of the right environment created by the government.

The other minerals include manganese, columbite, chromite, coal, lead, zinc, tantalite, gemstone and granite.

Mr. Sada disclosed that the federal government had also discovered high grade deposits of iron ore in new locations across six states.
