The regulatory Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has fined the
four Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) operators in the country a cumulative sum of 1.17 billion naira for poor services (US$1=157 naira).
In a statement, NCC said MTN, Etisalat, Airtel and Globacom were being sanctioned for poor services rendered in March and April.
The commission said details of the penalties had been communicated to the different operators.
MTN and Etisalat are to pay 360 million naira each, Airtel will pay 270 million while Globacom will pay 180 million.
“All the operators are to pay the penalties on or before May 21, 2012 or be liable to payment of additional 2.5 million naira per day for as long as the contravention persists,” the statement said.
