Nigerian airports record 13m passengers in 2012

About 13.4 million passengers travelled through Nigeria’s airports in 2012, compared to 11 million travellers in 2011, representing an increase of 2.4 million passengers, according to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

A breakdown of the figure showed that arrival and departure recorded 6.9 million and 6.5 million passengers respectively during the period.

“Yuletide period was the peak period that the management recorded high patronage as travellers came into the country for holidays,” FAAN said in statement.

High passenger traffic was also recorded in April, May, June, July and December 2012.

FAAN said it is currently focusing on the reconstruction of 22 airports across the country.

The authority said new airport terminals would be constructed in the capital city of Abuja, the commercial city of Lagos, the northern city of Kano and the oil city of Port Harcour in 2013.
