Nigerian state governor, former National Security Adviser feared dead in chopper crash

Governor Patrick Yakowa of Nigeria’s northern Kaduna state and former National Security Adviser (NSA) Owoye Azazi are feared to have died when a military helicopter in which they were travelling crashed in the oil rich Bayelsa state Saturday.

According to the private Vanguard newspaper, apart from the pilot and the co-pilot, two others, including Gen. Azazi’s orderly, were feared to have died in the crash.

The Governor and former NSA were among dignitaries who attended the burial of the father of presidential aide Oronto Douglas in the state Saturday.

In October, another Nigerian state Governor, Danbaba Suntai of northern Taraba State, was injured when a small plane he was piloting crashed in Yola, Adamawa state. He is currently being treated in Germany.
