President Mahama names central bank Governor

President John Mahama has confirmed Dr. Henry Kofi Wampah as Governor of the central bank, Bank of Ghana, the local media reported on Tuesday.

Dr. Wampah has been acting governor of the central bank since the confirmation of the then governor, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, as Vice President of Ghana after the death of President John Evans Atta Mills and the elevation of then vice president Mahama to the position of president in July 2012.

President Mahama nominated Mr Amissah-Arthur as vice president and he was confirmed by Parliament. The Mahama-Amissah-Arthur ticket won the 2012 presidential election.

Dr. Wampah was appointed first deputy governor of the central bank of Ghana in April 2009.

Prior to his appointment at the bank, Dr. Wampah was the Director of the Research and Statistics Department at the West African Monetary Institute. He also worked at the International Monetary Fund.
