Qatar Airways plane makes emergency landing in Lagos

A Qatar Airways plane on a flight from Doha to Nigeria’s commercial city of Lagos made an emergency landing at the main gateway Murtala Muhammed International Airport Saturday, because one of the tyres had low pressure, the local press reported Sunday.

The report said no one was hurt as the plane, an Airbus A330-200 with 248 passengers on board, touched down and taxied to a stop, shadowed by hordes of emergency response personnel, including fire fighters.

The Director-General, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr. Harold Demuren, was quoted as saying the pilot of the plane took precautionary steps to land the aircraft the way he did, and confirmed that the aircraft had low pressure in one of its tyres.

PANA reports that Nigeria suffered one of its worse air disasters last June when an MD-83 plane operated by the local Dana Air, travelling from the inland capital city of Abuja to Lagos, crashed into a residential area shortly before landing, killing at least 159 people.
