Repatriation of Tunisians stranded abroad at centre of Kais Saied-Noureddine Erray meeting

The repatriation of Tunisians stranded abroad, regional and international issues and the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic at the global level were the focus of the talks that President Kais Saied had on Wednesday at Carthage Palace with Foreign Minister Noureddine Erray.

The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the latest developments concerning the repatriation of Tunisians stranded abroad and the steps taken in this direction, said a statement by the Presidency of the Republic.

Kais Saied stressed in this regard the need to speed up the return of Tunisians to the country and to take the necessary measures to make repatriation operations more efficient.

Concerning regional and international issues, emphasis was placed on the constants of Tunisia’s foreign policy on all issues, including in particular the Libyan file.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs indicated that the talks also covered Tunisia’s accession to the Security Council and its contribution to boosting the role of the United Nations in the area of international solidarity.

The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the initiative of the President of the Republic submitted to the Security Council. This initiative, the minister said, is based on a new approach based on greater efficiency and solidarity among peoples through support for national efforts and those made by Member States to combat the threat of the new coronavirus and other threats to humanity.
