Senegal’s second international airport ready in 2014

Senegalese Prime Minister Abdoul Mbaye has said the country’s second international airport will be commissioned in the first quarter of 2014.

The Premier made the announcement on the inauguration of the Blaise Diagne international airport in his policy statement to the National Assembly Monday.

The Airport, named after the first black African to be elected to the French National Assembly, is under construction in Diass, about 60km south of Dakar, and is billed to complement the Leopold Sedar Senghor International Airport in the nation’s capital.

Construction work at the new airport was launched 4 April 2007 by former President Abdoulaye Wade, at an estimated cost of FCFA 235 billion (US$450 million).
