Third Congress of African Economists opens Wednesday in Dakar

The Third Congress of African Economists will start in Dakar, Senegal, Wednesday, under the theme: “Industrialisation and economic emergence in Africa,”
PANA learnt from official sources in Cotonou, Benin.

The three-day meeting, organised by the African Union Commission, brings together, every two years, the best economists in Africa and the African Diaspora to identify and analyse the economic problems facing the continent, with a view to proposing an effective and sustainable panacea.

During the meeting, participants will discuss several topics related to factors hindering industrialisation in Africa, technology transfer, agro-industry and industrialisation as well as the role of industry in the emergence of African economies.

They will also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the China-Africa Cooperation for African economies, among other issues.

At the first edition of the Congress in March 2009 in Nairobi, Kenya, economists pondered over the creation of a single African currency, while the second meeting, which took place in 2011 in Côte d’Ivoire, focused on the creation of a strong and sustainable economic growth in Africa.
