Tunis: Launch of project “decent jobs for Tunisian youth”

A cooperation agreement between Tunisia and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) was signed as part of the official launch of the PEJTUN project “decent jobs for Tunisian youth.”

The document was signed by Minister of Vocational Training and Employment, Zied Laadhari and Director of the ILO Office for the Maghreb, Mohamed Ali Deyahi, in the presence of representatives of the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) and the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA).

Coordinator of “PEJTUN, Michel Grégoire said this project aims mainly to provide more decent work opportunities for youth, women and men in the governorate of Beja, Jendouba and Siliana.

It will also offer training tailored for the job market by equipping youth with skills improving their employability and to implement policies and improved services for youth employment.

The two-years (September 2014-August 2016) project, whose budget is three million, will target 54,200 young people and 48 institutional beneficiaries, said Michel Grégoire.

For its part, Zied Laadhari welcomed the ambitious figures the project plans to achieve, emphasizing its importance in boosting the labor market characterized by a “mismatch between the needs of employers and the skills of the workforce.”

“PEJTUN” helps strengthen the government’s national strategy for economic development, especially in regions, he noted.

Funded by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) and led by the Ministry of Vocational Training and Employment, the project involves several partners like the Ministry of Development and International Cooperation, the National Agency of Employment and Self-employment (ANETI), UGTT and UTICA.
