Tunisia: 30-dinar departure tax for non-residents cancelled

Minister of Tourism, Salma Elloumi Rekik announced Monday, June 29 it was officially decided to cancel the 30 dinars tax imposed on non-resident foreign people departing from Tunisia.

The departure tax of 30 dinars, in force since October 2014, has infuriated Libyans wanting to leave Tunisia, which led the government to cancel it for Maghreb nationals.

The cancellation of the 30 dinar tax was decided following Friday, June 26, 2015 attack by a Kalashnikov-wielding terrorist on the Marhaba Beach Hotel in Sousse which left 39 dead, mostly tourists.

40 other people were injured and taken to hospitals and private clinics in the region.
