Air Zimbabwe said Thursday it would resume domestic and regional flights next month, after resolving some of the financial and logistical difficulties which prompted it to suspend operations two years ago.
But airline chief executive Innocent Mavhunga said international flights would remain suspended because Air Zimbabwe had not yet resolved its differences with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) over certification.
He said domestically, the airline would fly to the second city of Bulawayo and the resort town of Victoria Falls in addition to the capital, Harare.
In the region, Mavhunga said Air Zimbabwe would fly to South Africa three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
He said domestic flights would start 4 November 2012 and regional flights on 12 November 2012.
Lack of funding and aged aircraft forced the state-owned carrier to suspend flights two years ago.
It has a huge debt of over US$100 million, and has been pressing government – as the shareholder – to take over the debt, and provide fresh capital.
