Tunisia: Afreximbank loan boosts forex reserves to 97 days of imports

Net foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) covered 97 days of imports on June 13, 2023, up from 92 days the previous day, following the receipt of the $500m loan from Afreximbank.

The loan agreement, signed on April 4, 2023 between the Tunisian government and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), was approved by the Assembly of People’s Representatives (ARP) on June 1, 2023.

This loan will enable Tunisia to finance the 2023 State budget. The loan will be repaid over five years, with a two-year grace period.
