Turkish airport operator TAV Airports Holding said its Turkey-based joint venture ATU Duty Free has won a tender to operate duty free shops at five Tunisian international airports.
ATU Duty Free will operate the duty free shops for a period of eight years and two months, starting in November, TAV Airports said in a statement on Thursday.
The duty free shops of Tunis-Carthage, Djerba-Zarzis, Sfax-Thyna, Tozeur-Nefta and Tabarka-Ain Draham airports have a total area of 5,406 sq m. The airports served eight million passengers in 2013, TAV Airports said.
ATU Duty Free is 50%-owned by TAV Airports. The remaining 50% stake in the company is owned by German-based duty free operator and supplier Gebr Heinemann and Turkish logistics-retail company Unifree Duty Free.
ATU Duty Free operates duty free shops at airports in Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara and Gazipasa in Turkey; Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi in Georgia; Enfidha and Monastir in Tunisia; Skopje and Ohrid in Macedonia; and Riga in Latvia.
