UAE investment group Bukhatir wants to change the nature of its project in the “Berges du Lac,” Tunis, into a commercial project instead of a sports project as originally agreed, as the group is facing big problems that could lead to bankruptcy, said President of the Union Chamber of Developers of UTICA, Fahmi Shaaban.
Quoted by “Achourouk” newspaper, he added that relevant professionals are opposed to this project, especially as Tunisian developers are “able to bear the burden of megaprojects,” saying that changing the nature of the project amounts to “looting resources of the country.”
He further pointed out that the first tranche of the initial project was expected to begin and continue for two years and involves the construction of homes and villas, adding that no such thing has been done to date, which, he said, encourages Tunisian investors to enforce their rights to initiate projects on this area which covers 250 hectares.
