Tunisia: SOMOCER H1 sales down 35%

SOMOCER achieved sales of 13.7 million dinars, during the second quarter of 2024, compared to 21.6 million dinars in the same period of 2023, a decrease of 36.2%.

As a result, cumulative sales as of June 30, reached 30.2 million dinars, compared to 46.5 million dinars in 2023, a decrease of 35%.

According to the company, this decline is mainly due to the disruption experienced by the company following the freezing of its accounts, the fall in demand for its products due to the difficult economic situation in Tunisia, and the vices of the parallel market, with a large proportion of poor quality products, particularly from India, illegally imported and offered on the market at very low prices.

On the local market, sales fell by 39.4% from 42.7 to 25.8 million dinars in the first half of the year.

On the export market, sales amounted to 4.3 million dinars, an increase of 16.3% compared to the same period in 2023.

Production decreased by 53.5% compared to the first half of 2023, while investments during the period amounted to 1.1 million dinars.

Bank liabilities (balance sheet commitments) increased by 17.4% to 79 million dinars as at June 30, 2024, compared with a total of 67.2 million dinars for the same period in 2023.

Long- and medium-term debt represented 28.1% of total balance sheet commitments at June 30, 2024.
