Tunisia: Chambers of Commerce of Tunis and Oman sign cooperation agreement

A cooperation agreement between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tunis (CCIT) and that of Oman was signed Monday at the opening of the Tunisian-Jordanian business forum held concurrently with meetings of the Jordanian-Tunisian High Joint Committee.

Prime Minister Habib Essid called, on this occasion, to strengthen the relations of economic and industrial cooperation between the two countries, pointing out that Tunisia and Jordan rely on their human resources and capabilities, given their low natural resources.
Essid discussed the challenges and difficulties faced by Tunisia, as a result in particular of political, security and economic changes recorded in recent years.

He urged the private sector in the two countries to strengthen partnership to create businesses and realize investment projects in the fields of industry, agribusiness and health.

Both sides expressed the wish to see this forum contribute to the promotion of bilateral relations and intensification of trade between the two countries.

It should be noted that the growth recorded in Tunisian-Jordanian trade in 2014 has been accompanied by an increase of Jordan’s commercial budget deficit, reaching 26 million Tunisian dinars (MTD) against 10, 7 MD in 2013.

The increase in the deficit is explained by the regression of Tunisian exports of sodium phosphate and rising imports from the Jordanian market, including medicines and fertilizers.

Tunisia’s main exports to Jordan are sodium phosphate, margarine, canned sardines, tires and ceramics, while imports from this country consist of drugs, fertilizers and food preparations as well as soap.
