Tunisia: closing of 2016 budget is the first challenge of Chahed, says Besbes

“The first challenge of the government of Youssef Chahed is closing the 2016 budget,” said Slim Besbes, former finance minister and member of the Finance Committee at the House of People’s Representatives (HPR), in an interview with African Manager on August 31.

He also explained that Youssef Chahed must cut down spending and restore financial balances, particularly as regards the burden on the payroll in the public service.

Besbes said the budget deficit will reach 6.5% if the gap (2.4 billion dinars) is not financed by external resources.

“We must find ways to control spending and avoid a sovereign debt crisis,” he pointed out.
