Tunisia: Consumer price index up 0.8% in January 2019

Consumer prices increased by 0.8% in January 2019 compared with 0.5% in December 2018.

This increase is mainly due to the 2.2% rise in food prices, prices of furniture and household items 0.9% and prices of health products and services 0.7%, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Food prices rose sharply by 2.2%, as prices for fresh vegetables, poultry, eggs and red meat went up, the INS said.

Prices for the goods and services group rose 0.7% year-over-year, as drug prices rose 1.1% and prices for ambulatory services grew 0.6%.

The prices of household cleaning products increased by 1.2%, those of construction materials by 0.7% and household appliances by 0.6%, according to the same source.
